Chipped or broken teeth?

Porcelain Crowns

Improve the appearance of your teeth

If you suffer from a broken, weak or otherwise damaged tooth, a porcelain crown can be put in place to restore its original size, shape and strength, as well as improving its appearance and function.

Unlike other treatments, such as implants, crowns allow you to keep the root of your tooth. The crown, which fits above the gum and over the existing tooth, is normally made from a gold shell covered in aesthetic porcelain or very strong porcelain based material for a more natural look. The crown is placed over the damaged tooth, restoring its original strength.

Porcelain Crowns

How it works

Fitting a traditional crown typically requires two appointments.

1st Appointment

We take impressions of your teeth and match your new crown’s colour to the rest of your teeth- particularly those surrounding the treatment area.

2nd Appointment

When it’s time to fit the crown, your tooth will be gently prepared so its remaining structure provides a strong base.

We then bond your custom made crown permanently into place.

As well as highly durable porcelain-based crowns we also offer those made with a combination of metal and ceramic or a high gold alloy. Your dentist will be happy to discuss which crown is best for you and your budget.

FAQs

Do I need a crown?

A damaged or broken tooth can be unsightly, painful and make it vulnerable to bacteria or even more damage. A crown can restore your tooth’s strength, size and appearance as well as replace teeth that are:
● Worn down
● Discoloured or have very large fillings
● Mis-shapen

Will it hurt?

We use a local anaesthetic so you shouldn’t feel any pain at all.

Occasionally, a handful of patients experience some slight sensitivity but it usually goes away on its own in a few days. Any discomfort can be treated with an over the counter painkiller such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
