Large gaps caused by the loss of one or several teeth don’t only affect the way you look and chew your food but they also run the risk of the remaining teeth in the area shifting or rotating into the empty space, potentially leading to gum disease or the loss of even more teeth.
A bridge fills these gaps and restores your beautiful smile.
Before we fit the bridge, we carefully shape the teeth on either side of the gap and take an impression. A bridge is then created based on this impression, as well as the missing tooth or teeth. When the bridge is ready, we will set a convenient time for you to return to our practice where we will secure it permanently in place.
Our dentists are highly trained and always do their very best to make all our treatments as pain-free as possible. Occasionally, some patients experience a small amount of sensitivity for a few days but it usually goes away very quickly on its own.
Having a bridge put in place to fill gaps reduces the strain on the surrounding teeth, preventing them from shifting into the space and creating even more problems. Food and bacteria also get easily stuck in these gaps and can cause decay or gum disease. Needless to say, a bridge will also restore your smile and help boost your confidence!
A big advantage of a bridge is that it is placed permanently in your mouth, unlike dentures which you need to regularly remove and clean. A bridge also acts and feels more like your other teeth, looks more natural, takes up less space in your mouth, is easier to clean and less likely to affect your speech.
If you have any questions about which is right for you, please ask your dentist and they will be happy to discuss all of your options.
